Yeah well I dont visit warez or porn, don't have any hard feelings w/ anyone (nobody has any reason to fuck me up), never use email other than to sign up for stuff, and I enjoy performance from to protection software ;-) Warez is where I would go after I disabled my protection. Straight into Warez's black heart!! I'd give myself a goal. Like trying to find a song and download it from the webring. Ooohh the fun I had. spooker. F-disk is what you use to erase/put on the partitions on your HD. Usually before formatting it.

If you mean the PC, It's running perfectly fine. It still does everything properly except Windows Update -- but I just need to turn on 3 services temporarially. It's just fine. w/o virus protection it's a shitload off the memory and cpu... less processes = always more performance... always. Although some computer nerd been crashin my router. >.< Now if you mean how am I doing -- all I can tell you is that it's so nice to sit down at the pc and just be mindless for a moment... then I'm fine again. After a day of high school (some of the chairs suxor and make my ass hurt (cough science cough)) and all the trying to do math w/o calculator.. my ass and brain hurt. Usually sit on the bed before my other personality comes back, heh

As for the antivirus bogging down you system, I run AVG FREE on this old 200mhz pentium one while playing Quake with rarely any notice of system drag. That's a damn small footprint. All of the Free AVs are really good in this respect. The only trouble I have is it chugging a little bit because the OpenGL drivers for Quake are kinda patch jobs it seems. Quake II which was built from the beginning with opengl and 3dfx in mind I have no hitching problems whatsoever in it w/ AVG running.

OH Foq, and as for your router problem, have you guys changed the password on your routers webpage? Or is it still the default?

If you are using a router to handle traffic between the internet and your internal network/pc quite often these days they have a web interface to the router's management console. To access your router's settings you would point your web browser to the private (internal) ip of your router at which point it should ask your for a username and password. I think what Fuzz might be aluding to is have you taken the precaution of changing that password from the factory default password which can often be a means of attack by a hacker to something more secure (with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols. If you do decide to check this then perhaps you might consider also checking whether remote management of your router is disabled or not. If it is enabled then this too can often be a security risk as it is another means of entry to a potential hacker. Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Monty

Hey there again. Found a site that has guides to optimizing individual games, browsers and drivers. Also, although I havent looked into it much at all, it says it has a tweakingcompanion for getting the best performance out of winxp. I did a few quick searches for info on optimizing quake 1 but didnt find anything so far. Still, could be worth poking around on. Be cool!www.tweakguides.com

AVG doesnt even lag me down, only when it runs does it lag me down. Janurary 15th AVG will no longer be giving free software out. You will have to go get a different anti virus program. Ima move from AVG to Mcafee =p

Ima move from AVG to Mcafee =p Well if I was going to pay for an AV it would be AVG over McAfee anyday. But if you had paid attention to the thread where I suggested tips for keeping your PC clean you'll notice there's at least 2 other free AV's you can use.
