Clicking links in AIM can lead to infection by the worm W32.Pipeline. What makes this worm so frustrating is the way it attacks. Not only does this worm currently have no patches, it attacks by downloading new infections via completely randomized links. While worms could be rendered harmless in the past by disabling the websites that the worm downloaded viruses from, this worm is unpredictable, and will be very hard to stop. Once infected with the worm, victims have their computers infested with other viruses, turned into zombies, and used to spread the worm to other AIM users on the victims buddy list. The best way to prevent infection is to not click any links, especially ones that link to jpeg images. source: techworld
