I thought I would share a few things I've learned from using the Opera web browser that may help others who use this browser.
The default cache setting in Opera appears to be too low. It defaults at 20mb.When the internet cache is full then Opera, or any browser starts to slow down quite a bit. You can either empty out the cache or you can increase the cache size, reducing the frequency which it needs to be cleaned out. And in Operas default cache size setting, it fills up way too fast causing Opera to slow to a crawl.
To increase the cache size in Opera, click on Tools-->Preferences. Then click on the advanced 'tab'.
To the left you'll see a list that goes something like:
Browsing
Search
Notifications
-----------
Contents
Fonts
etc etc.
Click on 'History' and in the drop down selection for Disk cache select '50mb' or greater if you wish. You can also check 'empty on exit' and it will either empty the temp internet cache upon exiting Opera, or that web page. I'm not sure which. At either rate if you have a fast net connection, this may be the option you want. It will just empty the cache at least at the end of every Opera session so you don't have to worry about it.
Also setting the 'typed in addresses and visited addresses' to 100 is suppose to speed things up as well.(Note on Opera 9.02 there is only one field there called 'addresses' that handles both. A bit simpler.
And remember to click 'OK' before exiting.

I've been using Opera v. 8.54 since I've heard a lot of reports on the bugs being big problems in the new 9.x builds currently. Not wanting to rely just on hearsay I downloaded the new 9.02 build today to finally try it and see for myself, not letting it overwrite my old Opera version in case the rumors were true. I found a bug within the first minute of using the new 9.02 version and it involves this website. The new Opera 9.02 version doesn't display the banner graphic correctly for this webpage. It's shoved to the right and truncated. That was about all I needed to see for now. Went back to using version 8.54. If anyone is interested in trying Opera, I recommend the newest stable builid which is 8.54. Opera 9.x is currently too buggy IMHO. Click here to download version 8.54 of Opera.

Well I got word from the Opera forums on the problem with the TU website graphic banner being viewed with Opera 9.02. Here's the original thread. my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=125166I'll look into making the changes to the TU forum in a bit.

I found the error in the code in the TU webpage and have fixed it. The TU graphic banner now displays correctly in Opera 9.02.

I was playing around with the source code validator function in Opera. The TU homepage has 67 errors in it's code. Quakeone has 69 errors in it's homepage code.
TU wins! wOOt!

Eww. Errors. That makes me want to fix new games like battlefield 2, re-code them to run good on my machine without everything looking like shit. Sadly, I don't know how.
