From May 31st to June 8th, I'll be on vacation in Florida. Matt and I are going to sync up with Tony and his wife in Lake City, and we'll stay for the first night in a motel there, but then the rest of the time we'll be in Orlando in a timeshare. I know we're going to Universal Studios for about 3 days and then the rest of the time will be toss-up/whatever we feel like. Tony's been down there before so he pretty much knows what we'll be doing - and I've heard there are a lot of things to do, too! The coolest thing is that I've practically got the trip paid off - I'm going to use my Income Tax return towards the trip, which ends up being more than $200. I've already saved up some of the money, so I was planning on saving about $300 altogether. This will be my 2nd time in the area, but for me it's basically feels like my first time - I was too young to remember the first time we were down there. All I know is that we went to Disney World (the only thing I really remember was the Haunted Mansion, too). But yeah, who all do we know in Florida as far as Quakers go?

Hi Quaddy,
Ahhh Florida, one of my favourite places (well around Orlando and Daytona at least). I seem to recall D saying she knew Florida quite well some time ago so she might be able to give you some pointers. I also believe Leftism hails from Orlando (don't quote me, I could be wrong).
As long as you still have that little child inside you you should still enjoy Disney and Universal. We went there during Xmas 2006 (will return ASAP) and found that Disney was better value for money than Universal but there was plenty to do at each. If you're looking for 'adult' thrill rides then Disney may not be your best option. You might also consider some of the other attractions such as Wet n wild, Typhoon Lagoon, Sea World, etc
Hope this helps

Oh we're definately going to Universal - I was just remembering that we went to Disney World when I was really young. I know we're going to Island of Adventure though.
I'll have to see about Coral Castle. I wonder if Tony's been there.

I'll have to see about Coral Castle. I wonder if Tony's been there. Islands of adventure is adjacent to Universal. I'd probably try the Hulk Ride, the spiderman ride, the Shrek 4D show (universal) and the MIB (universal). I seem to recall a Trex/Lost world/[a href=" Jurassic park "]Jurassic park [/a]type ride which was also okay and I think at Universal. The last time we went you could buy at extra cost a 'fast pass' ticket that allows you to bypass a lot of the queuing. Strange that the Fast Pass system at disney was free although limited to 2 fast passes at any one time. At Disney you might consider the Tower of Terror, Aerosmith rollercoaster, Muppet 4d, Star Tours, The new mountain ride at animal kingdom, Lights Motors Action was okay although they didn't seem to get as close as the Parisienne drivers, Test track, Mission Space and the Back lot tour. As you can probably tell we're confirmed Disney junkies Hope this helps Monty

Just out of interest, and I hope you don't mind me asking but how much are you paying for your villa while you are there? We are looking to arrange another trip (possibly Easter 2009) and will be looking at around £400 per week. That's in the region of $390 for a fairly roomy 2 bedroomed self catering Villa with double garage in Kissimee(sp?) about 15 mins from Disney. Are they screwing the gosh darned limeys or does that seem about right?
kind regards
Monty

We're all kind of paying for the cost. I want to say I'm not spending a whole lot, I think around $40 for my share. Of course Universal costs around $80 for the week, and I also have to spend a little bit for the hotel we're staying at the first night. Anyway, here's a link to a map of the area where we'll be staying at: linkIts within walking distance of the Hard Rock Cafe and Universal Studios, and I know we're staying in the "golf villa" where there are like people playing golf in our back yard. So where you see a bunch of golf courts lined with houses, that's the area.

I bet Monty will be jealous about this: Yep. They're working on a Simpsons ride that is supposed to be open by the time we get there! Who knows, maybe I'll meet the "real" Monty Burns.

Makes me want to be there [Jealous] ;D ..and anyway I'm the 'real' Mr.Burns. Damn that Harry Shearer, Quick Smithers. Bring the mind eraser device! Smithers:You mean the revolver, sir? Me: Precisely. Of course I could crush him like an ant. But it would be too easy. No, revenge is a dish best served cold. I'll bide my time until ... Oh, what the hell. I'll just crush him like an ant. Or perhaps I could always send in the Hounds. I've been eying Quaddy's canine companion as a potential attack dog. One who likes the sweet gamey tang of human flesh. Hmmm, why yes he's the fellow ... Wiry, fast, firm, proud buttocks. Reminds me of me. Me without the emerald aura, a lifetime of working with nuclear power has left me with a healthy green glow... and left me as impotent as a Nevada boxing commissioner.

Mr. Burns: Goldbrickers.... Layabouts.... Slug-a-beds! Brandy won't mind! Think about it, Smithers. If I came into your house and started sniffing at your crotch and slobbering all over you, what would you say? Smithers: If you did it, sir?
