Mr. Burns, you are a very busy man. i am on the verge of throwing my pc out at the mo. it is not working properly and it is causing me quake issues. namely my ping spiking up to over 3500. and no, i haven't put an extra zero on by mistake, lol i am so frustrated right now!!! Is it just on shmack that you have the problem? Have you tried Fear? Have you tried any of the servers this side of the pond? I'd give bigfoot, gchq, flanders and blackhat a try and see if the problem is isolated to shmack / the US first. If not and assuming you are not on a LAN and therefore some other factor could not be causing your ping problems, I'd start looking to see exactly what is running on your pc. Check for the obvious things first like are your updates (windows, antivirus, etc) running during your quake time. Try shutting everything down apart from Quake. See what services are running that may not need to be such as server, alerter, etc. Check the Run key in the registry to see if anything is starting automatically that shouldn't be. Check your Start > [All] Programs > Start up and see if anything is activated through your log on that shouldn't be. If you are still having issues let me know. Kind regards Monty

Just played Peg, Pol, RocketGuy, etc at Painkeep on my server and it was a hoot. Even RG liked it! Apparently there is "...the occasional blip/spike.." but apparently it's "..nothing a regular player would notice.." which pleased me no end. Afterwards Polarite invited me over to his place and we played Quake 'Slide' which is worth a look. You ride a hoverboard down a course and time the result. Sounds less fun that it is but if anyone fancies a game I'll give you the addy. Kind regards Monty

...Burnsie, what are all these servers you run? Hi Spooks, I used to run the SPC and Q1 CRMOD servers, kindly assisted by Buurvrow, Sir Henry and [DC]Fodder, because I had had enough of the highly competitive servers populated by unsporting mouthy individuals who adopted a 'frag at any cost' mentality. This included botting, camping, spawn fragging, spamming, etc which in a tourny or some competition is more understandable but seemed to discourage new ppl from the game rather than attract them, and I though there has to be a better way. They were fun for quite a while and a number of eminent players have been on the server (Peg, Verbal, Polarite, Jackhammer, etc) but, inevitably I guess, interest in playing a sporting, fair and square game of quake where u treated each other with respect just seemed to disappear in europe so effectively I turned it off and assigned it to do other tasks. Now I run one from time to time when someone shows a little interest and in this instance Peg and B4T were the ones who indeed showed significant interest in one of the mods so after not much persuasion at all I fired it back up and let them play on it. They seemed to like it and gave me some useful feedback and shortly after tried another mod which also seemed to be favourably received. ...how come i didn't know? To be honest 6 reasons 1. Because I've only ever seen CS express an interest in playing anything other than RQ/RA/CA 2. You'd be pinging 120 ish which believe me is frustrating. It's like playing at shmack whilst in treacle. 3. The server is not up all the time, only when someone asks 4. It's not intended as a public server, only for a few friends seeking good natured sporting fun. There's no mouthing off, etc just good clean fun (I'm happy to PM you the details, on the basis that they are to be treated in the strictest confidence, when you fancy a game, in fact it's up to tonight 6. What happened to 5 5. Ah there it is ...oh and do you think you can recruit Peg for TU? he's the man!! Yes he's certainly a nice guy and has been very supportive in testing the servers etc. I'll mention it to him but to be honest I get the impression that he's not really in to the clan thing. He knows about the clan and the site as it's listed (in the links section) on my members site and he is a member. I'm off for a bit of Painkeep Kind regards Monty

Good to see you back in one piece. hmm news... While you have been gone the tournament guys have been doing us proud and had victories against SNS, KP and EXL. In fairness although I wasn't there I get the impression that the addition of Frenzy_tu, who to quote someone from another clan "..is like a team on his own.." has played a major part in improving the team's performance, although All of the tourney team members have done extremely well. The bigfoot server (RA/RQ/DM) is being moved from France to germany with a big fat connection and monster box for it to sit on so no more 130-180 spikey pings at shmack, hurrah!. Not that that affects my play significantly Peg kicks my butt on my server with a ping of 9 The GCHQ server (DM) on gchq.quake1.net now has a port 26001 for matches so that's good. GCHQ also still has pitbull in attendance during the daytime so that's.. well... I'll let you make your own mind up on that Polarite (an excellent player along the lines of Jackhammer, spooks, Frenzy, etc) has put up 2 servers (FFA and Match) in Belgium. Flanders.servegame.org ports 26000 and ports 26001 We've been having some great fun on my [part time] Quake Painkeep server which ocassionally runs the Deathmatch plus mod when I feel like a change. The Qrack 1.7 quake engine has been released as has a new version of Darkplaces. Canadian Sniper and Zop have been busily beavering away on a new mod that should accommodate large numbers of players in the same game but I don't have any further details on that yet. Hopefully CS will give us an update shortly. And finally Esther... Cookie Monster has decided to leave Tu and joined KP . I wish him well although that was not favourably received. 'Nuff said
Kind regards
Monty

Hi Spooker (you bad boy killing machine ) A Zimmer frame is a free standing tubular metal frame often used by the more infirm elderly members of society to assist them with walking or whacking teeneager's ankles. The Burnsy avatar was a slightly edited version of a model I used to use when playing UT. After playing under a number of different aliases I liked the immasculation quality of Teeny "Deathbringer's" and "Soul Reapers" being killed (albeit very occassionally) by a frail 100+ year old Mr.Burns Just picture this when you next see me. Admittedly in your case it's usually my back you see [Hopefully] disappearing in to the distance but I think you can get the picture. If only we could have these skins in Quake:-/. Qrack Teamskins are a start but it would be nice to have something a little more personalised Kr's Monty

They have changed the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disney since 2005 and now have a *very* realistic animatronic version of Mr Depp appearing several times throughout the ride.
Images of large burly security guards struggling to remove D who has clamped herself to one of the figures spring to mind.
hehe

From what you say it's good that you seem to be showing some consideration and restraint. I'm sure Frenzy is mature enough to let whatever it was pass, as should you, and let's not lose sight of the fact that it is only a game after all. Just play, show respect for your opponents and have fun Kind regards Monty
